Princess Ces'alena is an epic tale full of passion, empathy, sorrow, and the frailties of human nature. Mercedes Keyes has the extraordinarily rare ability to create a literary vortex in which the reader of her stories will be instantly sucked in and consumed until the story has reached its conclusion. And even then: you are left pondering the story and its implications long after having read it in the first place.Princess Ces'alena was the first book I read by this author several years ago and it was a pleasure to explore and re-read this new, revised edition. Like before, I got pulled into the tornado that is the Webster saga but it was refreshing to read the polished product. It was also a breath of fresh air to read an interracial drama not tinged with pornographic sex scenes. The characters sizzle and their chemistry is on fire. That being said, we get just enough of what we need to know and see without closing the book, feeling too hot and bothered ourselves. I've read books that are too tame to be a romance and too trashy to be romantic. This book strikes the perfect balance of love and passion. I appreciate that because if I want to read mommy porn, I can easily go read Fifty Shades. I want to read an all-encompassing, enrapturing love story and that is precisely what Princess Ces'alena offers. Enjoy it!

OH MY GOODNESS...THIS BOOK WAS SOOO GOOD. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN.
I HAVE SAID OVER AND OVER IN MY REVIEWS, WHEN A BOOK IS BELIEVABLE
AND TAKES YOUR MIND INTO THE PLACE OF THE STORY. THAT IS A GOOD BOOK.
THIS BOOK IS SO WELL WRITTEN. I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE THEIR HAVE NOT BEEN
MORE REVIEWS WRITTEN ON IT. MANNY AND LENA. A LOVE THAT TRANSCENDS TIME.
MANNY LOVED LENA MORETHAN LIFE. DURING THOSE TIMES SOCIETY SO DICTATED
THAT A WHITE MAN COULD ONLY HAVE A BLACK WOMAN AS A BED WENCH. NOW DARE
I SAY THAT WE HAVE TO KNOW THAT THIS STORY HAS VALIDITY. WE KNOW THAT
SOME OF THOSE MEN FELL IN LOVE WITH THOSE WOMEN. MY GRANDFATHER TOLD
US OF HIS GREAT-GREAT GRAND FATHER LOVING A BLACK WOMAN AND MARRIED
HER. SOME OF THE CHILDREN WERE BORN OF THE FAIR SKINNED AND SOME WERE
OF THE DARKER SKIN. THOSE THAT WERE FAIR SKINNED LIVED AS WHITES AND
THOSE OF THE DARKER WERE AS BLACKS. SO, THIS WAS AN AWESOME STORY TO
ME. I AM NOW READING THE SECOND BOOK IN THE SERIES. THIS IS FIVE STAR
AND IF TEN STARS WERE ON THE BOARD I WOULD GIVE YOU A TEN MS. KEYES.
Having come across Mercedes Keyes books once or twice in the past, i was not really drawn in enough by the covers (which I don't really care for) or book descriptions to actually buy any of them, especially given the higher price in comparison to some other self pub e-books. But, after receiving a few recommendations to give her books a try in a readers group that I frequent, I decided to give this book a go. I am glad that I did. I enjoyed Lena and Manny's story, and liked them as characters. Some might argue that it was far fetched that a slave owner would go to such lengths for one woman, a slave at that, or even to make things so hospitable for slaves at all...on a Mississippi plantation no less. But, having done some ancestry research on my own family, I have to say it really isn't that big of a stretch. Additionally, if I did have a problem with the actual story, I would have to say it was with the repeated bad decisions that some of the characters made (looking at you Manny). Though I understand that if the characters were perfect and didn't make those bad decisions there wouldn't be much to the story, but perhaps some diversity in regards to the nature of the conflict, instead of a repeat would have better served the story. Despite this I liked how the different storylines involving the main characters and various secondary characters divereged but intersected. As far as characters go, Manny was an alpha male in all the right ways...my goodness was that man hot! He was literally the most drawn out and complex character, not one dimensional at all.The author was really able to show the different sides to him, and give the reader an appreciation for him as a full character, exhibiting a range of emotions.
On the other hand, while the actual story and characters were well done, the editing was really bad. The use of hyphens instead of commas or periods, throughout the book, was odd and irritating. Chapters went on and on, covering more than one scene, when generally they should only be about 10 pages or so, and only cover one or two specific scenes with the same theme. There was alot of head hopping, and the indentations for when each character speaks was not off, both of which made it quite difficult to determine who was speaking.
All in all, I enjoyed this book, stayed up until 330 AM to finish it, and can't wait to move on to the next installment in this series.

Princess Ces' alena is the first book in the Webster Fields trilogy. The Story of Manny (Maynard) and the love his of his life a 15 yr old Princess Ces' alena. Lena for short, was illegally captured by slave traders from her home island of Makia. She is the daughter of the King and was taken captive to be ship to America. She was won in a poker card game from Morris Webster, the patriarch of Webster Fields. His son Manny was to pick up the new slaves and from the first moment he was in love. From that love caused problems and destruction at Webster fields. I have read the author's Beauty of a man and woman series. For some reason, I have liked this series much better. There were a few writing mistakes but I still understanding the story. The only issue I had was why did Manny make the same mistake twice!?! His wife Katherine was just as stupid, I mean really stupid. I guess the thought death doesn't faze everyone lol In all the book was great. I am almost done reading book 2.
