This is the fourth book in the Everstone Chronicles series - And it is every bit as good as the first 3. Dawn Crandall has a wonderful talent for writing stories that keep you turning each page - eagerly reading to the very end. This book has so many facets! A much loved Bible scripture is used to explain the beautiful transformation we go through when we turn to Christ: 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come."
This is Vance's story of becoming a new creation, and it is told with wonderful insights and feeling.
Here are a few of my favorite things about this book:
* A focus on God's redeeming love and forgiveness
* Good use of scripture
* A clean - yet passionate love story - with just the right amount of kissing
* Great chemistry between the main characters, with entertaining banter as well
* A bit of mystery, surprise and suspense
* And of course a dark eyed, gorgeous - swoon worthy hunk! :)
++ I highly recommend this book! It has a great message woven throughout. I fully enjoyed it and am hoping for a 5th book!

I enjoyed this book because I had remembered them from the last book in the series. I enjoy discovering more about the Everstone family. I would like more history of the period woven into the story.
I love all the books in this series. They were all written so well. They capture so many emotions and display them so well that you truly feel like you are living out the lives of these two characters. I always love reading a book that I cannot set down, and this happened to be one of them! Dawn Crandall is talented at writing and should think of doing another series similar to this!
Excellent series. As a new author read, Dawn Crandall is excellent, excellent. Anxiously awaiting for the next book in November.
Loved the story. I do wish that there had been a bit more suspense, but as the 4th book in the series I thought the story to be a great extension of the previous stories. That said, this book stands alone as a wonderful story with great characters.
The Cautious Maiden is another fantastic addition to Dawn Crandall's The Everstone Chronicles. The fourth in line the series, The Cautious Maiden brings Violet Hawthorne, a heroine with a complicated past, and Vance Everstone, a hero with a haunted past, together at Everston. When nothing is as it seems, The Cautious Maiden dives into the depths of mystery, intrigue, and faith all the while Violet and Vance explore the possibility of a romance neither one believes they deserve. As always with Dawn's books, I did not not want The Cautious Maiden and I'm eagerly awaiting her next book.
I so hope this is not the last book in this series. Romance, betrayal, some mystery and surprises - all major components of this great story, that is a clean romance written for mature readers. The story is well written and the characters are well developed. Vance is a wealthy, former womanizer who has become a Christian and is trying to live his new found faith. What a great story of forgiveness, sanctification and loving others more than one's self.
Finally, Vance Everstone finds his redemption. Throughout the entirety of this wonderful series, Vance has been the black sheep of the family. From the moment I read in book two of the series that he led Meredyth Summercourt into a dreadful mistake that haunted her, I seethed at this brother who couldn't seem to grow into his responsibility. It was refreshing to turn the first few pages and see how he'd changed.

I enjoyed a few things about this book. Violet Hawthorne pricked my heart. From the loss of her parents and home to her unwilling commitment to a trickily arranged marriage, she continues to persevere. And Vance, so new in his conversion, has so many temptations and walks beneath the shadow of his past.

To me, this book is about strength and overcoming. That anyone can find God and become a new person. That even the worst of situations can work out for the greater good for those who trust the Lord.

I love the series and highly recommend it. Five stars, no reservations!
