This was a sweet & easy to read story. It was a bit too short. I was close to giving it 4 stars but something about the ending didn't seem right.

Wyatt returns home after 12 years to his family. He runs into Paige, his best friend in high school. He promised to take her with him when he left but he blew town and never called or contacted her. He returns, his mom is the only happy person to see him. He tries to set the record straight about a car accident when he was 18 years old between him & his brother which was the reason he left town. this was the reason the whole town thinks he is a bad boy and the reason he left home never to look back. This was the better part of the story, Wyatt trying to set the record straight. Once you hear Wyatts side, his fathers side and his older brother Jay side, there were a lot of emotions and I honestly felt bad for all 3 of them. This had a lot of potential to be a nice novel.

What I didn't like was I felt no passion between Wyatt and Paige. Yes they said they once had a crush on each other and yes they shared a kiss, but then next thing you know she is asking him to move back home. Then it ended with a HEA but there was no passion felt, no sweep you off your feet, lovemaking, no romance. No past emotions came into play. This is why I am giving it 3 stars. I will keep my eye out for the rest of the series and hope the following books are longer.

Okay, this was very short, and I think it could have been an amazing story if given the room to fill out. Wyatt and Paige were cute together, but because of the length of the story, I think that they didn't really have time to be characters you really cared about.

Maybe it was just me, but it just felt like meh. Not bad, not great, just smack in the middle of "Read it, won't knock it, but won't recommend it either."
Nice change of pace A Tale told through the words of a different author, repeating the same family and the same territory, but with a different bend.
It was short, sweet and an easy read. And it was free when I got it, which never hurts. I got a bit frustrated with the classic mis-communication/lack of feeling recognition. But Wyatt and Paige were pretty cool or cool enough to keep me interested I guess.
Super good book. Wyatt comes home thinking he is welcome and there are hurt feelings and breaking relationships. He over comes it all and finds his true love in his best friend.
This is a very short but sweet story of two friends Wyatt & Paige who say they will remain friends forever. But due to a freak accident that he takes the blame for that he did not cause he feels he must leave town on the rodeo circuit & says when he gets settled he will send for Paige. 12 yrs. Have passed a near death experience & he has been invited back home for his parents anniversary but slowly finds out family is still angry & don't want him around so who or what is causing this? Total worth a short read time.
Wyatt leaved town after a fight with his father about something he took the fall for and years later he gets a card in the mail calling him back home. It seems like noone wants him there besides his mother but soon discovers each of them are facing a different reason why. Paige, his first love has a children she won't tell anyone who the father is, makes Wyatt want to turn and run out of town and not turn back by the way she is reacting until she offers him a place to stay during his stay. When Wyatt trys to leave a snow strom causes him to stay and in turn he makes sure Paige wants him in her and their son's lives after making nice with his brother and father. All is forgiven and everything works out in the end.
The issue with novellas or short stories is that they attempt to cram far too much into a few pages and because of this the story often feels rushed. Not only that but there is also a sense that somethings are missing in the story, be it that they were skipped in order to keep the story short or the author just didn't feel like adding them, which usually results in unanswered questions and unhappy readers.

This book was no exception to that. I had such a hard time connecting with the main characters, though Wyatt more so than Paige. This did not feel like a good introduction story for the series. Yes, it introduced some of the characters that would be prominent throughout the series but other than that it held little appeal.

By far the worst part was the ending. It came so abruptly that it left me wondering if I chunk of the book was left out during publication. Honestly it felt like there should have been at least another chapter to really bring the story to a close. It felt as though things were just starting to move in the story and all of a sudden it was over. The story was slow and somewhat dull, the romance a bit lackluster and I think if I hadn't read one of the other books in the series first I wouldn't consider picking up the other books, for fear they would be as bad as this one. Though the prequel to the Harts of The Rodeo series it is in no way a necessary one to read before starting into the actual series. In fact I'd suggest just skipping it, really not worth the time to read it.
