The premise of this book is somewhat silly: viking vampire angels, Vikings doing centuries of penance by convincing people to stop their current slide into evil and take the straight and narrow. And when the penitent agrees, the VVAs suck the evil blood out of them. I think I'd feel skeptical about that last part ...

What I liked: There's a lot of funny banter between the H and the h and their friends/fellow SEALS. The characters are likable. The H, not having had sex for centuries because it's prohibited and a sin outside marriage, can think of nothing else. He and the h engage in near-sex -- everything but actual intercourse. That's also a sin; it just requires less penance.

What didn't work so well for me: Much of it seems contrived and sophomoric, and it drags in places.

All in all, an amusing, light romance, and the price was right.

This book was terrific! I loved the inclusion of Zeb's story of how he became a spy for the Vangels. Trond trying to avoid exercise was enjoyable but his falling in love with Nicole was great!
Kept me interested. Pleasantly surprised,twists and turns kept me looking forward to the next event and where the story would go. First book I enjoyed more. I will keep reading this series.😊
I really enjoyed this! I picked it up after seeing it on the "Most Hated PNR" list in the forums. I was intrigued when someone described it as a Viking vampire angel sexually harassing a female soldier. I was like say what?! No way! I could not even wrap my head around the concept and thought someone was joking. Well, the Viking vampire angel part was correct, but sure enough, the rest was a little skewed. The story involves Navy SEALs and their female counterparts thrown together with visiting Nordic special forces brethren, who are really the Viking vampire angels all going on a mission together to rescue hostages held in Afghanistan. In between all of that is plenty of back story and romance. It is very well done IMHO. the only thing I hated was the " near-sex". Not a fan of that concept.
It was a bit of a struggle to finish this book. I lost interest many times and didn't really find it interesting. I don't know why....I had read some of her stuff before but it has been years since than and between than and now I have been introduced to other authors such as Laurann Dohner, S.E Smith, Eve Langlais.....so I had some expectations of course that I guess I formed since reading her series in the time travelers many years ago. I was lost, bored, uninterested and I really tried to get into it but it didn't happen. I'm sorry. I know writing books must be very hard work but I also have to be honest..... I really didn't like it and the previous book of this series. I tried the first book and didn't like it but thought maybe it was just me because I remember the great work from before and than despite it, I bought this one. Still really don't like it.
I am going to start with,I enjoyed reading this book so much, at the beginning I was kind of dubious about reading it or not, i started with a viking, i like that, an Angel? i like that a vampire, i like that but all in one, it kind of sounded ridiculous, to be honest every time they talked about themselves as Vangels i could not help but associate the word with Bangels and with bagels.
besides that, the first two - three chapters are kind of slow but after that it is actually a good story, it has a good plot, i think there is more to tell about Billy, he could have made another good chapter to add to the peak of emotion but is just my opinion.

the sensual tension, the humor, all of it made a very enjoyable story.

I will buy the next books, i'd really like to see what the other brothers long lives are like.
I didn't know what to think of this series when it was first introduced but once again Sandra Hill has done a remarkable job of combining a believable viking with an unbelievable vampire. As always this book brings humor and everyday sarcasm to the twists and turns of her story. The battle Trond and Nicole wage with each other fighting their unrealized attraction along with the difficulty of them each believing that they could be attracted to the other is at times hillarious and at times frustrating. They each struggle with the idea that someone else could find the good in themselves when they spend each day trying to hide what they view as all of their faults. His need to protect her and her to be independent really shows through the entire book. Once they each let go and realize that they should enjoy the time that they have it is really great. This book kept me involved from the very beginning and I am already looking forward to the next release in the series!
I own, in print, nearly every book SH has written, but have begun to exchange them for ebooks which is what lead me to Kiss of Surrender. I read a bit of the blurb, and confess I read only some of the sample included on the product page because it was SH after all, and I'd always loved her books in the past. Until this one. I got to 40 pages in and could not read anymore. It's not bad, per se, but it is not for me. I got so bogged down in the vampire angels and vampire devils that I couldn't sink my teeth into the story plot. I will continue to be a huge fan of SH books, though not with this series. I returned the book after less than a day, which I felt bad about, but reasoned that if I'd seen it in a brick and mortar store that I would have stood there reading some of it and would have set it back on the shelf before I'd even read 20 pages. Sorry to SH--still a huge fan!
